It’s been and wee while since I posted an update; apologies. The garden is slowly recovering after major drainage works over Christmas meant we lost almost all of the grass to trenches and huge holes. The grass is still patchy in places but the seed is now growing through. Perhaps it’s the time of year that caused it to grow really slowly. There’s still 3 huge tank caps to disguise somehow though! The third year we celebrate a birthday without mum, and it affects me differently each year. This year I felt a deep sense of sadness, struggled to focus on the day. I decided to action something my sister initially thought of, and went to see a tattoo artist.

At the end of my first year in New Zealand I didn’t think there could possibly be a year that was worse: losing mum just weeks after I left England, and only 2 weeks after I found out she was terminally ill, arriving alone in a brand new country, a city I had never been to before, starting a job that didn’t turn out to be at all like I expected it to when I accepted it via teleconference call in the UK.
