TEAM MARBEL Challenge Wanaka race weekend

IMG_7794This week was all about Challenge Wanaka: a plan in the making for a very long time. We set off to Wanaka on Friday, with a swish apartment booked for the long weekend: relaxing in style was Ben’s idea. Thanks Ben! Well, we do have 3.8km-180km-42km to cover on Sunday!

Our trip took us through Lumsden, Five Rivers, up the devils staircase and up over the crown range road, stunning switch backs and awesome scenery every which way you look: a must drive for any visitor to Southern South Island! Continue reading “TEAM MARBEL Challenge Wanaka race weekend”

Mountain bike trail riding and a surprise trophy!

Mel and Mark at Five Rivers I’m pleased to say a slice of summer returned to us this week, meaning my 5 minutes out in the park could continue, Mark’s summer series orienteering is in the dry and we could get the new mountain bikes out! It’s a novelty to go out and do something sporting together, as we usually are way to different in fitness or ability, or competitiveness!

Queenstown sunshine and rural games

team MARBEL So this week has been slightly better, after last week’s weather malfunction! We decided to trot Ben off up in the Queenstown direction, a tourist must do. As always, I needed my ‘wow’ earplugs. It does amuse me because we were exactly the same! Team MARBEL united at last!

Mark and BenThis week is ben’s first week in New Zealand. He is over to visit for 5 weeks, as a holiday, with a small matter called Challenge Wanaka in the middle.

I am swimming the 3.8km, Ben is cycling the mid section, 112 miles, and Mark is rounding it all off with a marathon. Should be great fun! I’m so glad I get the easy part!  Continue reading “Team MARBEL united at last!”
