Elite Para Waka Ama: why I have decided to quit

After making this announcement privately to the manager, coach and team, I have decided to make the public aware of what goes on behind the selection scenes and why – after on 18 months in the sport, I have decided to quit.

Today TVNZ1 aired the first in a two part series that was filmed following our run up to competing in the Va’a world sprint championships in England, August 2022. This was my first time competing on the international stage as a para-athlete, and my first representing New Zealand in waka ama.

Let’s start at the beginning. Here is the last week or so in selfies. I post these daily on my stories to keep me accountable to myself and making an effort with my appearance. They actually started as a way of me getting used to how i look with an artificial leg. Then i just carried it on.
