Winter cycling and TKR strength building

What happens when you’re self employed, things at work do a bit belly up combined with increased actual customer demand…. well you end up doing crazy hours and forgoing the rest of your life, that’s what!

And that is exactly what has happened this week. You know the person who thinks that being a personal trainer makes you fit… needs to be shot because it actually does the opposite!

We are deep in the belly of winter here in the southern hemisphere. That makes going outside rather demotivating at the best of times, bitter arctic winds coupled with crappy housing (compared to the UK… I will always prefer my house of bricks over my current wooden house!) means everything feels so much harder!

So, the fact that I actually went outside into the bitter southern weather and rode my bike was a miracle! But I was determined to be outside and not inside!

I’m starting to hate the long training that goes with this aquabike race, specially in the dead of winter!

Meanwhile, I am still trying to find regular time to hit the gym and continue to work on the left – right leg balance and strength.

This is my current favourite piece of equipment, a squat rack at the hospital gym which they will let me use when they have no clients and I can come and go as I please. This is what the squats currently look like. I am trying to fix left – right balance, left – right leg loading, and get more squat and less lean forward. I think it is improving, very slowly.

In one more week it will be months since the op. In one sense, it feels like it has flown by and in another it seems a year ago and I feel like I should be stronger by now than I actually am.

Oh the joys that is TKR rehab!
