This week, we made a pact with ourselves to go tramping each weekend at least once. It’s a great way to see places, cover ground not accessible any other way, and we would like to do one of the great walks to need to get training!
The Ryding chickens!
Despite the days drawing in, our chickens are still doing really well. They are still growing their feathers back, but are looking a lot lot better, are much more alert and inquisitive of humans. Their combs are much more red, it’s great to see the improvement. They will even eat out of your hand. We are getting roughly 2 eggs a day, which is great!
Southland Arts Festival
This week has been the start of the arts festival locally. I didn’t pay it much attention at first to be honest, but I had heard that some of the performances people had been to were fabulous. That’s the beauty of living here, there is ALWAYS something going on, you can never say there is nothing to do.
I was walking to my car after meeting a colleague for coffee, and I walked towards a shop that was closed, but had a huge crowd staring at the front window. I stopped to see what was going on. Here is what I saw!

Forest Hill Reserve
Today we decided to revisit the Forest Hill reserve. The last time we came, we underestimated the length of the track, and turned back mid way for fear of running out of daylight, having set off too late in the day.
Today we went to the other end of the track, and parked there. As we set off, the lower bush was simply filled with birdsong. I had to stop and record some, it was so so loud!
From there we walked up the hill to the loop track and stopped to take in the stunning view of the surrounding area. It would be a fabulous running track, it is all up up up!!
