Despite the day starting in a rather crappy fashion I managed to turn it into something awesome. I also learned a valuable lesson about forming judgements about people before they talk to me. It’s interesting because it directly relates to my own self beliefs and where I am at in the whole amputee- grief journey.

I’m so excited, scared… such a mixture of emotions. I think it’s the para-unknown. I remember a disabled athlete friend saying to me a while back how you have to learn real fast to put a lot of trust in strangers.. I’m now feeling that completely! I’ve chatted to the race organisers, we will work this first one out together!

The Boxing Day weekend was forecast the best weather during Christmas so we decided to take the opportunity and go camping. It’s hilarious really on reflection: I have always been known as the one that prefers glamping (at least, preferably a hotel!) but since living in New Zealand, to be honest, this country is best enjoyed off the beaten track and away from tourists, which has led us to prefer much more basic camp sites.
