Autism Awareness month: 9 April

Mind blindness

Autistic people often have difficulty appropriately responding to others’ emotional expressions. This is “mind-blindness”.

We often struggle to experience a normal sense of empathy towards other person’s feelings and thinking. We will usually learn this through coping others and coping social norms.

We understand the usual extremes (happy, sad, angry etc). It’s all the subtle parts in between that we struggle wjth.

It was only relatively recently that I posted a blog asking my readers to help me understand the meaning of the word ‘anxiety’.

Sooo many… to rote learn. It doesn’t come naturally like it does with neurotypicals.
