Southland Times coverage: ACC house modification delays

Following the article published by the Otago Daily Times (previously blogged right here) The Southland Times, after some negotiation, also came to the party. I saw this as an opportunity to write a follow up article, presenting BOTH sides as I felt like ACC blamed me the last time around, and I had no right of reply.

The reporter made it clear that she would be stepping outside of the normal journalistic style for this paper, but was keen to get my point across to counter what ACC might say this time.

‘Difficult’ wait for accessible bathroom continues. [pub ODT 8/6/24] & my comments

As you know if you follow me online, I have been waiting 3 years and 7 months for ACC (the Accident Compensation Corporation) to modify my house and make it wheelchair accessible following my left leg below knee amputation (which was a result of medical negligence and was 100% avoidable).

Bam! There it is in black and white: the 2nd time my life changed for ever.

As you know if you have been following my story, I have argued all along that the amputation could have been avoided, that I knew what was wrong right from the beginning but no one listened to me. Well I finally have a decision from the medical investigation into the treatment I received in the months before my left leg was amputated below the knee.
