Yesterday marked 4 years since my life physically changed for ever. The date will be imprinted on my brain for life. For positive and negative reasons.
I am physically and mentally scarred for life.
I found out some shocking things about someone who was close to me.
I found out that my mental and emotional strength to deal with adversity was far greater than I could ever have imagined.
I found my soul mate. And I wasn’t even looking.
I am now in a relationship that is stronger than I have ever had before in my life.
Year 4 highlights
- Got married.
- Dad and Judy came to NZ
- A number of great staycations
- Better at adapting to my changing mobility / equipment needs.
House Reno news
Over the last few months since going to the media with my story, we have been beavering away behind the scenes getting the architectural plans correct, finalised and approved.
Yesterday we had a site meeting with the builders, project manager, OT and ACC. We now have a date for work to start – at long last! Work will start on my house on 8 January 2025.
How do I feel about that? Well, Peter is excited, whereas I am feeling a little bit overwhelmed to be honest. The building work is so extensive that we have to empty the house of possessions and move out. While this is know is essential, it also fills me with anxiety. Living out of a motel, having to constantly move around due to limited availability locally is not ideal for my MH.
And, my cats will have to be housed in a cattery. I am absolutely sure that I am more stressed about that than the cats actually will be!!
This year also marks 11 years owning my house, which equals the longest time I owned / lived in my house in England. That in itself is mind blowing. My current house is the third house I have owned / lived in. House no 1 I only had for a few years. House no 2 I had for 11 years too. So next year I will have lived in this hours longer than I have lived anywhere else! Wow!
My ‘ex pat living abroad’ feeling has at some stage along that line, morphed into feeling like a British born Kiwi instead. subtle but significant difference.
Here’s to more significant events and changes in year 5.
