Poem: What do you see?

What do you see?
Do you actually see me?
do you just see smiles
And positivity?

Can you see past
The fake outer shell
To someone who regularly
Is living through hell?

Or do you decide
To see the nice side
And tell me how amazingly
I’ve embraced the ride?

Well let me tell you
Those days are but few
More often than not
I feel like I’m through.

Fighting to cover
The pain underneath
Of badly made garments
Making me scream

Or maybe the pain
Of an ill fitting leg
And all the waiting
For appointments, I beg

So stop and think
Next time you say
wow your amazing
You’ll get there one day.

Think of the effort
And anguish it took
Just to be stood here
… don’t give me that look!
